Une illustration réalisée pour un roman jeunesse publié ce mois-ci chez Albin Michel - Collection Wiz. Je regrette un peu les contrastes trop francs de la couverture définitive, ainsi que le cadrage différent. Je mets ici les deux images, celle soumise à l'éditeur et celle imprimée.

Dessinant habituellement des images très peu contrastées, aux tons pris dans une brume épaisse, je me suis fait aux exigences éditoriales conduisant mes images à être systématiquement retravaillées par d'autres que moi. La seule chose, c'est qu'essayer à tout prix d'éclairer et de vivifier une image aux tons doux et sourds conduit souvent à des bizarreries visuelles, où toute cohérence de contraste et de couleur tombe un peu à l'eau.

A cover illustration I did for the French translation of a young adults Spanish novel (published by Albin Michel - Wiz). I'm not a fan of the vivid color and tone contrasts used by the art department on the final picture ; and I don't like the framing either. Here are the two versions, the one I submitted to the publisher and the one printed on the actual book (the title is actually printed with silver ink).

Since I always do dark and little contrasted pictures, I've been used now to get my work modified by art departments. I just wish one would print one of my illustrations without pushing all colors and tones to the limit, because doing so always give them a weird look, quite awkward actually, with things visually jumping out of the pictures. The coherent look of the picture, its own system of light and shade and colors is kind of destroyed.
