Cette aquarelle d'un scribe persan a été réalisée pour un livre jeunesse, mi-fiction mi-documentaire, à paraître ce printemps. Ne disposant pas de scribe et n'habitant pas en Perse, je me suis pris comme modèle. Les décorations du tissu sont empruntées au Grammar of Ornament d'Owen Jones, un superbe ouvrage de 1856 dont on peut trouver les pages ici et aussi disponible en édition papier Dover.

This watercolor of a persian scribe will be published this spring among others in a half-fiction half-document children book. Since I don't dispose of any real scribe at home, I used myself as a model to get the whole attitude done. The ornaments on his dress are taken from the sumptuous Grammar of Ornament, by Owen Jones, which can be seen online, or in the Dover republication of the original book.
